Islamabad Announces Two-Day Local Holiday

ISLAMABAD The Office of the District Magistrate, Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT), has officially declared local holidays across the federal capital for Thursday, April 9th and Friday, April 10th, 2026.

The notification, signed by District Magistrate Irfan Nawaz Memon, specifies that the holiday applies to all offices within the revenue limits of Islamabad. This declaration effectively creates a four-day long weekend for most residents, including Saturday and Sunday.

Notification Overview

According to the official order (No. 1(20)-HC(G)/2026-444), all public and private sector offices will remain closed, with the exception of departments categorized as essential services.

Essential Services to Remain Operational

To ensure that the city’s infrastructure and emergency response systems continue to function without interruption, the following departments are excluded from the holiday and will remain open:

  • ICT Administration & Police: Maintaining law, order, and administrative oversight.
  • CDA & MCI: Capital Development Authority and Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad.
  • Utilities: IESCO (Electricity) and SNGPL (Gas) will remain available for maintenance and support.
  • Health Services: All hospitals and emergency medical facilities will be fully functional.

Distribution and Implementation

The notification has been formally dispatched to the Ministry of Interior, the Chief Commissioner’s Office, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), and the State Bank of Pakistan. Additionally, the Federal Directorate of Education and PEMRA have been notified to ensure the information is disseminated across educational institutions and media channels respectively.
